Shore Power is actively gaining popularity around the world as countries are finding ways to de-carbonize the maritime industry. This technology allows a ship to turn off its on-board engines and get external electric power from the shore where it is berthed. The United Kingdom launched a call for evidence to gather information on the benefits of shore-to-ship power for the shipping sector in 2022, open till 25th April 2022, with the aim to seek information on the costs of shore power and its benefits, including the potential for emissions reductions, scale of vessel emissions at berth, and options to enable the roll-out of the technology.
